What do you do when you run out of your daily moisturiser? Do you automatically go and buy another one - or maybe you feel like trying something new?
Working in the beauty industry has encouraged me to be fairly promiscuous when it comes to skincare, but inevitably, I will revert back to my trusted favourites brands that I know are going to deliver what I need for my ageing skin. I also think it’s interesting to ‘mix it up’ a bit to provide different actives and not get too used to just one formulation. So, here’s a list of my top go-to brands for midlife glowing skin.
Caudalie

A brand born in the Bordeaux vineyard of the famous Chateau Smith Haut Laffitte, where founders Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas learned that grape seeds contain the most powerful antioxidants in the world. I highly rate all the Premier Cru range for ageing, drying, midlife skin but if I have to choose two products that I keep going back to, it is the Eye Cream which is just so light but also extra hydrating to tackle all signs of ageing including fine lines, dark circles and puffiness while brightening the eye area. And the Crème Riche, which is really ultra-moisturising while firming and plumping and tackles pigmentation.

Murad

Murad has been around for over 30 years and has earned it’s credibility and standing with over 19 different patents over this time. After trying it’s ‘City Skin SPF 50’ a few years ago I was hooked. My recent favourites are new Vitamin C range, which is just brilliant for midlife skin. Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant and will also help with pigmentation and sun damage. If you’re going to try just one product to start with, I highly recommend the Vita C Glycolic Brightening Serum which is excellent.
La Roche Posay

This trusted brand is a great mid-price option. Originally developed for sensitive skins, the core of each product is unique thermal spring water enriched with antioxidant Selenium as well as natural soothing and healing ingredients. This is one of my ‘go-tos’ for cleansers and facial washes as they are only lightly fragranced and leave the skin feeling fabulous with no ‘drying effect’.
Medik8

Medik8 is my ‘go-to’ for retinol and serious actives. This brand is highly respected within the beauty industry and known for the quality of products often backed by some very positive clinical trials. Medik8 is the brand I turn to for Retinol. Retinol is essential for mid-life skin as it will encourage cell turnover and renewal which has the effect of giving the skin a more glowy and plumped appearance. The key with retinol is to build up on the strength slowly depending on your skin’s sensitivity.
Goldfaden MD

There are two products from this brand that I am literally addicted to. Both are intense cleanses; The Doctor’s Scrub Ruby Crystal Microderm Exfoliator – is a really luxury creamy scrub which buffs away dead surface sin and impurities while it nourishes with seaweed and Jojoba oils. For a deeper cleanse, the Facial Detox Pore Clarifying Mask gives a fabulous intense detox leaving skin really clean and refreshed.

Sarah Chapman

Sarah Chapman’s Skinesis range is born from her facial clinic in Chelsea, and is famous for its award winning ‘Overnight facial’. My ‘return-to’ products are the Intense Hydrating Booster Serum and the Overnight Facial. The serum is great for ‘parched’ skin with low-molecular-weight hylaronic acid (so that it can be easily absorbed) and rose water to re-plump and re-fresh. The Overnight Facial is a lightweight facial oil/serum (everyone knows I love a facial oil) with huge benefits. Advanced peptide technology helps boost collagen production and antioxidant vitamins combined in an omega rich oil help to rejuvenate and brighten the skin.
